School Feeding Program

In recent years, the country of Ethiopia was hit by a drought that left the agriculturally dependent mass facing a famine. Looking at the crisis on a deeper level, revealed that many rural children were not only hungry, but unable to attend school.

God opened a door for our involvement with the initiation of a public school feeding program in the southern region of Ethiopia. Located less than 50 kilometers from Hawassa were five schools where the need for such a program was identified. In the summer of 2016, the first shipping container arrived with the contents of dehydrated vegetables used to make a soup to feed children in these schools. By the end of the year more than 8,000 children were fed through this program daily. Our collective goal with our partners, is that the number of children fed daily would exceed 20,000 children in 2017.

This has been a collaborative effort of food suppliers and facilitators, Fraser Gleaners (Canada) and Christian Disaster Response; fundraising and vision casting of our partner organization, Fire Over Africa; and the approval of local education authorities. We are privileged to be a part of this ministry.
